Book of Joy (2025)

Overview

Feeling overwhelmed and world-weary? Ready for more joy in your life? Have we got an offer for you!

Starting on Sunday, May 4th, Unity of Fairfax will begin a series of talks and small groups inspired by the wisdom of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu, as found in The Book of Joy.

Both of these globally-recognized spiritual leaders faced tremendous pressure while leading their communities in the face of horrific oppression, and yet somehow both maintained conscious connection with the divine attribute “Joy.”

How did they do it? And how can we do the same in our tumultuous times?

For six weeks, we will explore the wisdom and practices of The Book of Joy. On this page, you will find resources to enhance your journey to Joy. Check back weekly for more Joy!

In his message on Sunday, May 11, Rev. Russ invited everyone who was looking to augment the experience of joy in their lives to use “joy cards” as a tool for doing so.

Share The Joy! (Sunday, May 25)

On May 25 at 9:30 a.m. in Classroom 1 and on Zoom, we will have a hybrid gathering to Share the Joy! Please share your stories of sharing, finding, and being Joy.

Sharing Joy creates more Joy.

Loving Kindness Meditation

May I be happy. May I be free. May I be free from tension, fear and worry. May I be healed. May I be at peace.

Just as I wish to be happy, so might you be happy. May you be happy and free. May your tension and your painfulness of heart fall away. May your joy increase. May you be free.

May we all be happy. May we each come into the light. May we let go of the blocks. May we let go and experience our perfect being. May we all be free. May we all be happy.

May all beings be happy. May all beings be clear minded. May their hearts open. May they be free.

May all beings love themselves. May they come into their happiness. May they uncover the joy of the true Self. All beings everywhere.

—The Dalai Lama
