Remembering A Season for Nonviolence
Whats New > Remembering a Season for Nonviolence
WHAT IS IT
A Season for Nonviolence, January 30 - April 4, is a national 64-day educational, media, and grassroots campaign dedicated to demonstrating that nonviolence is a powerful way to heal, transform, and empower our lives and our communities. Inspired by the 50th and 30th memorial anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., this international event honors their vision for an empowered, nonviolent world.

PEACE CURRICULUM FOR YOUTH - TRAINING FOR ADULTS
1:30 - 4:30 pm in the Sanctuary at Unity of Fairfax Church
Educators and parents gathered in the Unity of Fairfax sanctuary on January 26th to experience peace-related ideas and activities for children of all ages. These included journals, arts and crafts, games, songs, 'kid-sized' mini-meditations, and compassionate communication techniques.
All present considered how youth could be encouraged to cultivate inner peace, perform acts of kindness, and dream of creating a world of peace.
Together, the group created a peace medicine wheel with stones, naming a quality or element of peace with each stone.
We experienced the effectiveness of the 'Rainbow Path To Peace', a conflict resolution tool which was created at Unity during the Season for Peace 2005. The path guides participants through the steps of non-violent communication along with inner reflection.
Written resources were shared, and a spirit of collaboration and mutual support between teachers and parents was established.

FORGIVENESS WORKSHOP
Unity of Fairfax sponsored a workshop by Sophy Burnham - mystic, healer and author of best seller, Book of Angels.
Perhaps the greatest stumbling block to happiness is being unable to forgive a person, group or circumstance which has hurt you. The hurt blocks your creativity, and prevents the full expression of your being.
The workshop provided tools for forgiveness which help a person to reach full potential and become happier.
