Farewell to Norm Morrison

The congregation said a fond farewell to Norm Morrison as he prepared to move to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Norm has been a very active member of the Unity of Fairfax Community.  He has been a member of the Men's Group, Worship Team, is a former Chaplain and has been active with Earth Care's Adopt-A-Spot and Beautification Days.

Whenever help was needed for Sacred Service and other activities, Norm was always one of the first volunteers.  We wish Norm great success in his new Santa Fe home.

Sacred Service teams honored Norm after the 11 AM service with a special cake prepared by Luzy Perez.

Medicine Wheel Rededication Ceremony

Unity of Fairfax’s medicine wheel was recently rededicated at a beautiful ceremony of blessing and renewal.  This medicine wheel was first established in 2008 by the Wiley family – Jean and David, along with son Evan – and has been a part of the youth education curriculum since that time.

Each year the wheel is smudged, drummed, and blessed to renew its purpose of harmonious existence with nature, and bring a multi-generational community into the meditation garden. Recent additions to the medicine wheel include four directional stones to clearly mark the path, along with signs to provide guidance for those who wish to use it.  Coming up on October 27th is a time for our dear animal friends to take part in a medicine wheel walk as part of the pet blessing event.

Each summer, the children of Unity learn the Native American practice of entering the medicine wheel from the East, and meditatively circling clockwise through the four directions of the wheel, seeking answers to life’s questions; contemplating the journey of their life; and finding stones which represent various personal qualities to help them along their path.  The teens created these specialized stones and prayer ties; and church members brought stones from places far and wide to complete this cultural circle.

May those entering and peacefully sensing this circular vortex of energy feel the wind whisper through the trees, the birds softly singing, and nature’s many voices blending into one. May each find the assistance of Mother Earth, Father Sky, and Great Spirit (God) to discern the best way to turn the wheel and move forward in life. May this path and its purpose remain and be enhanced in years to come.

Aho,
Jean Walker-Wiley
