Here are two new articles for November 2012 ~

New Outdoor Sign

Have you noticed anything new about our building?

The new Unity of Fairfax Church logo is now displayed on the front for the world to see.  Our sign incorporates the relatively new Unity Worldwide Ministries logo, a symbol that is rapidly becoming more recognized.  The UWM logo is a move toward uniting our energies for powerful work together and continued growth of the Unity movement.  Up to 18,000 people a day can see this symbol on our building as they travel Hunter Mill Road.

This investment in our future cost $5,000. We gratefully accept gifts from sign sponsors, who will be acknowledged in a special bulletin insert. If you feel moved to be a sponsor, please mark your donation "logo sign."

Many thanks and Thank you, God!                    The Unity of Fairfax Board of Directors

Interest in dancing continues to grow at Unity of Fairfax

Submitted by Charles Coyle and Christine Cartwright

From dream to reality in three months: Unity of Fairfax now has a large and active dance group with 65 people on its list!  Have you heard about this latest Not-so-Small Group?  Interested in joining?  Read on to learn more...

Last July, Mary Shapiro recognized a general interest in dancing, and suggested that we form a group.  An initial e-mail was sent to 12 people.  Word spread quickly, and the  response was overwhelming.  We held a planning meeting on September 23rd, then held the first lesson on October 20th  in the church atrium.  Christine Cartwright -- who became a member of UoF on November 11th -- taught the first dance class to nine people in East Coast Swing.  She also provided refreshments for the group, including a cake made especially for the event.  A Love Offering was collected and given to Unity of Fairfax.

The reaction to the group's first lesson was very positive, so a second session was held in the atrium on November 10th.  Attendance rose to 19 people who learned steps for the Waltz and the Fox Trot. Christine again blessed the dancers with another of her homemade cakes at the end of the lesson.

In addition to the two lessons and small parties in the church atrium, many of the group's members have ventured out for dancing on weekends, thanks to the communication of our distribution list.  Some favorite locations so far:  Friday evenings at In-Step School of Dance in Fairfax, Saturday night dances at the Colvin Run Community Hall in Great Falls, lesson/dance parties at The Ballroom in Centreville, and several events at The Dance Factory in Arlington.

The Unity of Fairfax Dancer's Group is expanding beyond UoF members.  In fact, the latest to join is a teacher from Pinnacle Academy.  We have encouraged members to reach out to their friends in the community at large and invite them; we are also reaching out to other Unity and New Thought churches in the area to come and join us.

There is more to come!  We have just purchased a 12x36 ft. portable dance floor that we can set down in the sanctuary for larger groups.  Upon hearing about this new dance floor, Mary Shapiro is interested in planning some Contra Dance events (English country dance done in groups.)  Stay tuned.

UPCOMING EVENT:

Finally, mark your calendars for Saturday, January 19, 2013, when we will hold our first Dance Gala! The event will begin at 7 p.m. with lessons in swing and waltz, followed by dancing and partying from 8 to 11 p.m.  Singles are welcome! No partner or previous dance experience are required.

Tickets for the January 19th Dance Gala will be sold at the door for a suggested minimum donation of $10, cash only.  The attire is dressy but comfortable; wear or bring soft-soled shoes for the dance floor.

Come join the Unity of Fairfax Dancer's Group for plenty of music and dancing, food and friendship!  For more information, please email Christine at robertmartin3636@yahoo.com.
