Helping Hands Ministry at Unity of Fairfax

Ministry volunteers provide key services to people who are sick, temporarily disabled, or otherwise unable to take care of routine daily activities on their own. Services that the Ministry volunteers can provide include:
Prepare and deliver meals
Shop or run other errands
Provide transportation for medical visits or other appointments
Perform yard work or odd jobs
Make friendly telephone calls or visits

Helping Hands was designed to provide aid on a temporary basis, coordinating with family members, friends, or others who may be able to provide help. In cases beyond the scope of assistance that Helping Hands is able to provide, the Ministry will make every effort to provide the requestor with contact information for other local resources.

The Helping Hands Ministry presents an opportunity to provide direct service to Unity of Fairfax congregants. Volunteers come face to face with the people they serve and see first-hand the difference that their assistance makes in people’s lives.  There are currently about 30 Helping Hands volunteers.  Volunteers may specify the type of assistance they are willing to provide; for instance, a volunteer might prepare meals while another volunteer delivers them.

If you know of someone at Unity of Fairfax who needs help or if you would like to volunteer, please contact Connie Sorrentino: csorrent528@verizon.net or 703-528-2551.  In addition, there is a volunteer card and a “Request for Services” sheet in the atrium that you may fill out and leave in the basket.
